Thought it would be neat to see how everyone sorts and organizes dogs in their kennels. What runs do you use, if any? What system has worked best for you?

The runs I have used for years are...
Trainees (dogs I am sessioning)
Show String (dogs in the ring)
To Be Entered (fully sessioned dogs that need entered or re-entered)
For Sale
Breeding Pups (pups I have kept only for breeding purposes. I keep them here until they are 30 days)
Studs
Broods
Pregos

Interested to hear how you all like to do it!

Whelping Box = pregnant females
Showing = Dogs currently being entered in the ring
Conditioning = adult dogs needing sessions, not ready for ring yet.
Puppy play pen = all puppies not for sale.
Brood Bitches = non-showing non-pregnant adult females
Studs = non showing adult males
Sale barn = all dogs of any age up for sale.

I am constantly moving dogs from one run to another depending on their status. I have whelping box first so I can see those quickly when checking for puppies due.

I use this in 4 out of 5 kennels. The 5th one is organized strictly by breed because I had 4 breeds in there. But I may change it now that I have only 3 to this formula,

EDIT to add If a show bitch is bred, she goes to the whelping box but after she drops her pups, she goes to conditioning not brood bitches until she is ready for the ring again.

Mine is similar to Heaven's:

Show kennel for dogs in session or shows
Puppy kennel for puppies I'm keeping
Breeding kennel for brood bitches both pregnant and not yet pregnant
Stud kennel for non-showing males not in session
2 sales kennels - one for studs one for bitches

and the kennel set is repeated per breed, so each breed has their own set of those kennels

Also, I have a color breeding kennel for breeds I'm working on colors in, and if I have a line breeding project that goes in a separate kennel too.

I may be a little anal retentive....

I have:

Showing
Training to Show
Broodies 30+
Broodies 0-29
Studs 30+
Studs 0-29
For Sale

I used to have seperate runs to pair up project dogs/bitches, but the traits were all combined, so I did away with the extra runs and now use the notes for breeding reminders. happy :)

Currently i'm using

Currently Showing
Pups Sessioning
Sessioning
stud dogs
Breeding pen (pregs or recently whelped girls)
Ret Champs (altered,on the couch)
underage boys
underage girls

I use 2 for sessions so I remember to do the food changes.

I used to have even more cause i'm a little OCD but it started confusing me instead of helping happy :).

First off, make sure you are in custom view and not classic view. This can be changed at the top of your Settings on your My Dogs page.

If you are in the custom view, go to your dog's page and at the bottom of the Owner Options page, there is a drop down menu and you can choose where you want to put them.

Hope that makes sense. happy :)

ETA: Helps to add the right pictures.

I tried having just a studs and broodies run, but I didn't like having so many who weren't ready to breed, and I would forget to put studs up at 30 days. lol

Pups to Keep: All pups from litters I want to keep for sure.

Young Adults: Males/females that don't need sessioning or conditioning.

Training: Dogs I am sessioning.

Trained: Dogs I have sessioned but haven't finished yet.

Condition: For dogs that need their condition up.

Bitches: Breeding females that may or may not be finished. A breedable bitch who is trained but not finished stays in the "Trained" box.

Studmales: All non-showing males and finished males ready for stud. Trained but unfinished males stay in the "Trained" box.

Unsure: Puppies and young adults I might keep. Some sales on approval are in here. Also breed once and then FH are in here.

Sales: Sales on auto are in here.

Young At Heart: This has always been the name of the run I keep my retirees in.

I have

Broods ~ Any female that is 30 days or older and not pregnant.

Heffs ~ Any bitch that is not 30 days old yet but is only for future breeding.

Stud Muffins ~ 30+ males not showing

Soon To Be Stud Muffins ~ Males under 30 days that will be used as stud only.

Sessioning ~ Any puppies/adults sessioning for show ring. Once a puppy starts sessions they go here, regardless of age.

Show Ring ~ Current bunch showing.

Puppy Pen ~ Unsorted puppies or puppies I'm unsure of still

Source Project ~ Only Bichons.

Oldies But Goodies ~ Retired.

Whelping Box ~ Current pregnant bitches.

It works, keeps things in order for the most part.

Ive played SD for many many years and I have used many different options with my kennel runs.

I currently use this system for all of my 5 kennels:

Show
Session
Broods
Studs
Sell
Second Chance
Couch
Project

Second Chance dogs are generally bitches that have some nice traits but are lacking in something else - so I generally allow them to have 1-2 litters and then FH them after they have produced something better than themselves. (As I allow my general brood bitches at least 4 litters before selling or FHing).

My Project dogs are exactly that - I love working on specific traits and quite often go back and use studs in abandoned kennels to bring back traits.

The biggest downside to my kennel runs is that I have to keep an eye out for when the broods need adult food, and when the studs need to be placed up for use. This thread has been really interesting - so I have decided that in one of my kennels I will go back to my old method of: 'Young Studs' and 'Young Broods' to see if this helps happy :)
