Can someone please explain to me how to calculate SOP in simple terms. I've been searching around a lot on here and can't seem to understand the things that were posted about it forever ago. Thanks in advance.

Alright I will attempt to explain this: Let’s start by taking a random dog of mine to break down: www.showdog.com/dog.aspx?id=13931547 An Alaskan malamute with a SOP of 95.8% First subtract all the traits from 10 one by one: Head FQ HQ Gait TNB Coat 0.4 0.7 0.8 0.4 0.7 0.4 Size Temp SS Feet 0.3 0.5 10 0.6 ^You should get this row of numbers Then multiply each of those traits by their weight in your breeds’ standard of points: For example mals are laid out like so: Head 15 Forequarter 5 Hindquarter 5 Gait 10 Top Neck and Back 5 Coat 10 Size 20 Feet 10 General 20 So you would multiply like so (keep in mind that temp and showshine are split between 20 on skipwall making them be multiplied by 10 each: X15 x5 x5 x10 x5 x10 6 3.5 4 4 3.5 4 x20 x10 x10 x10 6 5 100 6 ^You should get these numbers, which you then add together for a total of 142 Take that number, in this case 142 and divide it by 10 which is perfect for all traits You should get 14.2, next subtract that number in this case 14.2 from 100 to get 85.8 Then add 10 to get the correct SOP of 95.8% I’m not sure why the skipwall method for calculating SOP works like this, but it will always come out 10 less than the actual SOP, so just add that 10 in and your golden. This works on every breed, every SOP level; hope this explanation was clear enough and it helps. |

Thank you so much!! That was very helpful and easy to follow along Is there a way to calculate SOP of pups to be born or do you just wait it out and see them? Just curious |
