Hi all! As we all know, Spinones are in dire straits with only 16 dogs in active kennels. I have a litter due, as does Little River but I think we would benefit planning as a group to map the way forward to up our numbers with quality dogs while keeping the COI low.

I plan at some point to buy a source dog or two as I think it will be a struggle otherwise, but first I look forward to seeing what the new puppies bring laugh :D

I didn't even consider source dogs. Wonder how expensive a Spinone source dog is. *heads off*

eta: on a side note I can't remember how to buy a source dogs.

Doesn't seem that way, looks like each of the colors are fairly equally represented...

Is that skewed with most of the alive dogs being tied up in an inactive kennel though?

You may be right, but even in that case I don't know, I think we need to do some kennel stalking :P

I did a tally

Logged in last Week
orange roan-9
brown roan- 7
white-2
white and orange-4
white and brown-3

Dog - 5
Bitch- 20

I don't know if everyone with Spinones is breeding them, saw a good few starters when I did my tally so hopefully there will be some new blood soon. I know I have a litter due and I think when I can afford it, making a new stud will be crucial

It seems like the white color is the least populous so maybe work on that?"

Yeah I think I might buy a white stud in... Hopefully others will join in the thread so we can get an idea of who is actually active.

Looking forward to my first litter being born laugh :D

I have room in my basic to take on a couple of Spinones. I have 4 free starters available. Would it be helpful if I got a couple of starter males?

That would be super helpful! We are running low on males at the moment, I just managed to get hold of a new stud and there are new litters on the way but I think we will need all the blood we can get (I think we are going to have to take the SOP down before it comes back up)

I was looking at shows and found this

I'm sure we can have some decent dogs by then to show laugh :D

This is Artistri's basic kennel. I have 4 starter spinones now, 3 dogs and one bitch.

That's awesome. With any luck we can build up a small community eventually. But before then, I hope we can get some good quality Spinones in the ring.

This is Little River's basic, I used my breeding though. I will be building up some money in my basic here and I will see if I can buy any starters (or is that a premium only feature)...

I think to go in the ring a lot of the dogs we will be running will be much lower SOP range as we've had to and will need to do a lot of breeding good dogs to source dogs. Its going to be a hard slog but i'm fairly optimistic happy :)

I've put my two starter boys up for stud, they are currently the only studs available.

Got a litter of puppies due later CANNOT WAIT to see them laugh :D They will have SOP's in the 80s and will be great for mixing with my starter litters. I thought about just breeding from the best dogs but I think we risk the COI getting really high and us then having to go back to starters bringing down the SOP... I think its better to get the COI low now, broaden the genepool and then when we raise the SOP, while the breed is being brought back and then we don't have to go backwards. What are your thoughts?

I have two litters due on saturday that will be High SOP dogs mixed with starters. So there is due to be a boom in new dogs. We will be running at a much lower SOP than other breeds but we should be able to make some decent competition between ourselves happy :) There is a speciality next month

So what are peoples thoughts? and plans, if you don't mind sharing happy :)

Did you know?
