I would like to propose a change in the points needed for grand champion levels. Right now it is as follows:
Bronze: 100
Silver: 200
Gold: 400
Platinum: 800
I (along with many other users) feel that platinum is not obtainable and that gold is nearly impossible to obtain. As it stands there are only 15 gold GCHs in the game and no platinum GCHs. The maximum number of GCH points that can be earned by one dog is 515 (not including specialty wins). Please vote below on which option you would like to see and when you vote please comment so this poll stays bumped in the forum.
Points needed for gold and platinum GCH
Change gold to 300 points and platinum to 400 77.92%
Other: please specify below
No change 9.09%
Keep gold at 400 points and change platinum to 500 points 6.49%
Change gold to 350 points and platinum to 500 6.49%
65 Total Votes | Votes from premium users carry more weight.

Can you explain how you calculated this number? happy :)

(Just so I can understand it better) happy :)

Dogs can be shown until age 120, but not before age 14. It also takes a minimum of 3 shows to finish the championship.
So 120 - 17 = 103 days to show. Maximum of 5 GCH points per show. 103 X 5 = 515.
Specialties, of course add more. But I would guess a majority of breeds only have one specialty per month.

A dog can show from 14-120 days. It will take a minimum of 3 days to finish a dog's championship which leaves 103 days to get GCH points. If a dog were to win 5 GCH points/day this would give it 515 points. This is not including specialties which would allow a dog to get more points, but the frequency of specialties varies between breeds making this impossible to calculate.

I would like to see this poll implemented. I have recently been discussing the unobtainability of both Gold and Platinum, but in my rare breed particularly, the difficulty in ever achieving Gold.
Jeff led me to believe that if this poll showed a desire to chance the levels he would implement it.

The information regarding points required in the original post is not correct.

According to the original post when we voted on the Grand Championship levels - what was voted on and approved by membership was:

Bronze - 100 pts
Silver - 200 pts
Gold - 400 pts
Platinum - 500 pts

I believe when the levels were set up Jeff may have set the Platinum level higher than what was voted on. (So the Platinum level was never supposed to be 800 points.)

rhondacline, could you post a link to the original post? I couldn't find it when setting up this poll so that may very well be true. Unfortunately none of the dogs with 500+ points are displaying as platinum so the problem would need to be fixed either way.

Also am I wrong that some dogs mature and obtain 20 obedience slower than others. So some breeds are really unattainable

Yeah, it dropped them back to the old scale.

I'll update when I get home later today.

Just wondering, I'm looking at this list www.showdog.com/shows/results/grand_champion_rankings.aspx And I can only see 5 dogs with Platinum GCH. Should it really be THAT hard to get Platinum GCH? Shouldn't we at least see 50-100-150 dogs? (so at least the top breeds can actually get a very few platinum champions) Being this high (500 points, right?) makes it practically impossible..

Maztec, it was changed so that platinum GCH requires 400 points. I think there was a problem with the medals being displayed correctly that Jeff needs to fix. It was correct for a day or two.

Thank you for the change in point levels! Can you please add it to the Help list for ease of reference?

Did you know?
The two largest American dog shows after Westminster are the National Dog Show (which is televised on Thanksgiving Day by NBC, usually after the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade) and the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship.
