I'm trying to figure out the best way to match my bitches to a good stud. What is the COI number that shows when you are comparing the two? I understand that you want the numbers to be as close to 10 as possible, but I've bred good bitches to good dogs and every time my pups come out with lower SOP's than both the parents. What do I need to do to better the SOP when breeding?

The COI is the coefficient of inbreeding. As long as it is under 15% it has no effect on the SOP of the puppies. I have found that the best way to improve SOP in the next generation is to try to balance out the traits of the bitch with the traits of the dog. Try to find the dog that improves on the most traits of your bitch.

Did you know?
At least two wins must be a set of three or more points ("majors"), under two different judges; at least one additional win under a third judge is also required.
