GIMP is great. I used it for a long time. I'm a professional graphic designer so I own Photoshop along with the whole Creative Suite. Alexandria |

I use a combination of both GIMP and Paint.net. Both are free downloadable programs. Here is a banner I made a long time ago using those programs.  WishMaker |

I use PNGs personally because they support transparency and they're naturally a higher resolution than JPGs. Alexandria |
