How old do dogs get when they start showing diminishing returns at shows...I haven't figured out the days to months ratio yet. Basically how old is too old and needs to be FHd?

You will only be able to enter conformation shows from day 14 to 120. I believe it is longer than 120 for obedience though.

As for diminishing returns, there are none that I know of that are directly linked to age. As long as the dog places satisfactorily, keep showing to 120 days.

The same is true for breeding - if it is not producing decent offspring, then you should consider the FH. Dogs can be bred until they die. Be aware that a VERY old girl might die before giving birth and you could be out a stud fee. Most dogs have been FHd well before they die but sometimes folks have special projects recovering lost colours or entire breeds.

Thank you all so much! Great to know, I didn't want to be putting my dogs out to pasture too early.

Did you know?
The first obedience title is a CD, or "Companion Dog", which is earned through competition in the Novice obedience class.
