Does fertility start to decline in dogs and bitches as they get older?
Is there a maximum age. I have just bought an older dog, 249 days old to use his old bloodlines and now wonder if I made a mistake? |

this post has been edited 1 time(s) Don't think so. I have been breeding some biscuit Sammie bitches I found for sale in an old kennel. Trying to get the biscuit colour going in my kennel. The youngest was around 350, the oldest over 400. They all produced pups better than themselves, and saved me going to source dogs to get the colour going, and also helped in establishing the cream line. So I would not give up on him ----- Last edited by Taymyr on 10/28/2016 1:50:18 AM |

That's great news, thank you. Does the same apply to bitches? |

I have bred bitches 350+ days old with no apparent problems, so I think it does. |

One of mine is 889 days old and just had a really nice litter! (considering the circumstances) |

Wow, I wonder if that's a record? The old ones I bought have done well for me. |
