Everyone is doing well, and Ty is growing like a monster! The only problem is having now is how terrified he is of people. He has never loved them, but is becoming increasingly shy and timid, and has even nipped at people out of fear when they reach for him. Believe me, we have jumped on this problem, but outside of typical lots of socialization, treats, and praise when he is good, are there any other methods that anyone has used that work? He will approach people out in public and take treats from them, he just freaks out when they try to touch him. Other than that, he is very very smart and very obedient for an aussie puppy (much more than Rhea ever was!).

Anyway, Rhea (red tri aussie) is 16 months, Vell (rat terrier) is 7 months, and Ty (blue merle aussie) is 14 weeks old tomorrow. No one was particularly cooperative for pictures today... Enjoy!

happy :)

I dont know if this is even an option for you but we had a puppy like that and we ended up putting her in doggie daycare once/twice a week, it REALLY helped alot!

The dogs look good! I love Aussies!!

i have just been through that sort of problem with my golden about 2 months ago but he never got quite that bad just freaked out and yelp if someone he didnt know touched him but he was happy to go up to them.We put him in puppy class and it sorted the problem out now he has no problem with it at all and just passed puppy class with flying colours.

We told people when they came round to not reach for him and wait till they had been here for awhile before they touched him aswell and then only to stroke his back at first that helpped aswell i guess having a stranger reaching towards his head was too much for him to handle at first but now he couldnt careless where they touch as hes had people touch all over his body and check his mouth and the likes out

They're all beautiful dogs. Good luck with Ty's shyness.

I have the same problem with Jinx. I took him everywhere with me when he was little but after a bad experience with a boy we were babysitting he got extremely shy and nervous. Its gotten quite a bit better lately. He would hide everytime my dad walked into a room and if he couldn't hide he would cower and his eyes would get huge, if my dad tried to touch him he would urinate. I took it really slow with him and after a couple months he can usually be found laying by my dads feet. We're still working on getting him used to being around other people again. I think I would hold off with the doggy daycare idea for awhile and get him used to being around a smaller group of dogs/people first.

It just takes a lot of patience. Good luck!

Thanks everyone happy :)

We tried having people pet his back first so they weren't reaching for his head first and so far it is a *little* better.

If only now I could convince him to stop peeing in his crate... I swear he likes to play in his own pee!

Odd, most every dog will not "mess" in their beds. Mine won't unless they have been in there too long (never happens). And if they have an accident through the night I don't wake up for (they all sleep in the master bedroom), they try to bury it and have a fit...

So, I don't know what to say, other than he is a gorgy babyhappy :) And Good Luck with himhappy :)

Have them try to pet under his muzzle/chest first. When you do the top of his head its a dominance thing (to them) wich could be a reason why he is doing what he is.

as far as the crate and peeing, some dogs take longer than others. My male took..1 night to learn. My female..took 4 months >.<

I had this peeing issue with a foster, it turned out to be a uti. Have you had him tested for one? If it's chronic, though every puppy is different, I typically try to get them tested just to make sure that I'm not missing something.

If petting is a big problem I would teach him how to "touch." I have a pei that doesn't really want to be petted but she'll touch anyone's hand for a cookie.

As for the peeing, I made a post about it a while ago. We've had him checked. He has no UTI, no kidney problems, nothing. He will not poo in his crate, but he pees multiple times a day in it, sometimes after he has been in there for just a couple minutes and only has a tiny bit of urine (I'm telling you, he has to like it). He doesn't even make a little peep, no noise at all, just pees.

Rhea peed in her crate ONCE when she was eight weeks old, and that was my fault. Vell never peed in hers(she just never shuts up!). Ty is a whole different story. He went a week and half without doing it, and I thought he finally got the idea, but he started doing it again. There is no physical explanation for it, so we're just waiting for it to click. He is otherwise a smart little puppy and learning all of his commands very well.

Layne always peed in his crate. He'd get mad that I left him and pee right away. Dirty, nasty puppy... Now I crate him with the others in the room, and he's fine... But he did that a lot when he was younger... He'd pee in his ex pen too. He's been good lately though, he's almost 5 months, so I'd hope so!!!
And sometimes, even though I KNOW he can hold it, he does at nighttime, he'd go anyway. Like he could hold it while sleeping, but during the day no way. Especially if he has some water...
I'm sure it'll get better as he ages... Puppies get a lot of baths because they get soooo stinky.

Two are aussies and the other is rat terrier.

I have WONDERFUL news!!! Ty did FANTASTIC today with approaching people! He just strolled on up, ate his treat, and let the people pet him however they wanted (head, muzzle, anything!). I was SO happy! I think he is finally getting over his stranger-phobia!
