Faith is getting her ACL surgery tomorrow morning. She has a full tear, which is the most extensive and expensive surgery- but the vet said she was a "dream" candidate, because of how active and healthy she is otherwise. The vet we chose is one (if not THE) best vet in Colorado, and has done thousands of these and says that he's never had a complication with the surgery itself (although there have been one or two freak accidents in post op). She will need 12-14 weeks to fully recover and a full two weeks before she'll be able to walk around the house without a leash on at all times. She's already mad at me because I didn't let her stop and play ball at the park next to the vet (Yeah, on three legs, she still pulls me around). So, we're expecting a totally smooth recovery but there is still a chance, high chance, that she will tear the other leg also. Sigh. Our surgery will be around $3000- yikes- but luckily we have a 'dog fund' which should cover it.
Please keep Faith in your thoughts tomorrow. She should be fine but I still hate surgeries...

The collie boys and I are sending healing thoughts her way for a speedy recovery. I know how you're feeling, surgeries are always a nerve wracking business! |

Best of luck. Faith has a long recovery ahead of her, but she should do great.
My German Shepherd had surgeries on both of his ACLs, and recovered beautifully both times, so if you have any questions or need any advice, feel free to ask. |
