Almost, but not quite. Her Dad is an Afghan Hound but her Mom is half Afghan and half... ACD.

I know, training will be something else, thats for sure!

The lady I got her from raises Afghans and ACDs.

She said that in this pups Mom's case, the litter ALL looked afghan but two, one who looked pure ACD and one that was an obvious mix.

She kept one puppy back, one of the "Afghan" pups, and now has had this litter from her.

From what I saw they all look alike (but two of the pups are the black with brown highlights) and appear Afghan now, but who knows exactly how genetics work?

I met the lady who had the litter through an obedience class Scout is currently in. I made over the Afghan Hound pup she enrolled, and she's given me some great tips and advice with Knucklehead Scout.

I don't know if she plans on breeding like this again, but she says probably not, not with a mix but she's thrilled to be able to keep in contact with Piper so she's guaranteed to see one of the litter grow up.

aww, such a cutie. Piper sees, unless she grows to look like an Afghan with the long hair lol

Is there a reason why her breeder mixed such two different breeds? Or was it an oopsie litter?

cute pup good luck with her........i am puzzled by the fact this "breeder" would knowingly breed a mixed breed dog, humm........don't think calling her a breeder is in order here.

I was told the litter the Mom is from was a planned litter while the lady was caring for her SIL's dogs. The owner of the Afghans was going through radiation/chemo at the time her Afghans were ready to breed.

The lady who was caring for the dogs at the time raises ACDs for working purposes, but has an occasional one she sends to pet homes.

She said when the Afghan litter was born (her SIL had since passed away due to complications with her cancer/treatment; her remaining lung collapsed in its weakened stage during radiation) she was VERY suprised to find the two pups were different than the others, and could only mean her working ACD (most likely) had gotten in the mix at some point since he has free range while he's "on duty".

She's since rehomed all of that litter with the exception of one she kept, who is the Mom to my puppy.

Here's a picture I took of her, but it's not good with the glare and angle. Her hair is cut short through the warmer months so what you can see on her back doesn't look as long as it should be.

I'll try to get more pictures, this time of both parents.

Personally, I wouldn't have bred her to anything considering she came from a mixed litter but the lady seems to think the possibility of the Moms litter having two dads is very possible and she wanted to "see" what a breeding would create, if not for her own curiosity.

why not just have the pups dna tested then instead of possibly mixing breeds in the future? i also don't understand the rationale much.
on the huge plus side, though, that pup is lovely! you are so lucky!

She didn't breed the litter and has no control over someone else and what they decide to do with their own animals. Theres no reason to question the OP because she didn't know what the actual "breeder" is thinking. Its such a confusing concept, isn't it?

The puppy is gorgeous, she still looks like a Carlie to me lol

I don't think anyone is accusing OP of anything... But it's an odd mix to have so of course I and others would be interested in how it came about. I don't really see what's so wrong about that. I do think it's a cute pup and I said such, but I didn't see anyone knocking OP for what the breeder did.

I agree that her reasoning is a bit odd (DNA testing would have been more efficient), but maybe she didn't have access to the parents somehow? idk

good luck with the pup, regardless. Have you finalized her name yet?

The mother has prominent cataracts in both eyes but then she looks pretty old. If she is young and has eyes like that you need to be concerned for you own pup.

The Mom is just at two years old and has no cataracts. As said above, the picture shows glare and is not at the best angle. It was the clearest I got before my batteries conked out on me.

I do think I'll be calling her Piper at this point. She's sweet and seems very attentive and smart.

I never thought of DNA testing on Piper but it would be neat to see. I'll ask my vet about it. I can't tell the lady who owns the parents what decisions to make though. As is, I doubt she'll have another litter with her but I'm not positive.

Given time, I'll post more pictures of her to show how she starts to mature.

Right now I have my hands pretty full but I'm content.
