I have 7 dogs to name today and I am out of inspiration. I usually do some sire x dam combo. Do you guys have a go-to source for creativity?

When all else fails, I look for song titles with the appropriate word in them. I use a lot of musical names. Or place names. Or people names. I have been known to sit staring at the laptop for 20 minutes waiting for inspiration. With 5 kennels and I can't remember how many breeds, it does get tough. That's why now I sell most of my dogs unnamed except for some where I am really into the bloodlines. You used to be able to do a Google search using *, as in 'black *' and get expressions etc starting with black but that doesn't seem to work anymore.

I've used inspirations from books I've read, song/movie titles and lyrics.

I've used baby name sources (German names for Weimaraners, Welsh names for Welsh Terriers).

Sometimes I just go through the alphabet(names beginning with A, with B, etc.) Depends how creative I feel, or not - lol.

For Arabian Horses and Salukis

https://welshgirlsnames.co.uk/

Most of these name sources have links to other national/ethnic regions, if you wanted a Spanish name for instance.

For Pharoah Hounds:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ancient_Egyptians

I've also googled the origins of the breed and used place names from the region.

One of my favourite sources is the site "Fantastic Fiction". I use the search tool, select books, then type in a word, eg Irish, Dance, Magic. And then go through the book titles that come up for that word.

Hundreds of titles in there.......... and a lot of very good names happy :)

Other very good sites:

Have fun!!

Thank you all! Great suggestions and I have bookmarked those links. I use single names in two of my other kennels so the name ones will come in handy.

As I was doing research on some plants this morning, I ran across this website that has fun names for their varieties. I guess inspiration is everywhere and came to me, too laugh :D

people usually named their dog with something sweet or food-related like Hershey, kisses, etc.

Did you know?
The first obedience title is a CD, or "Companion Dog", which is earned through competition in the Novice obedience class.
