I would stab a guess at solid black or liver and roan in both colours, but I wouldnt know if that was the correct term or if it the case in the US

I figured Shybade or WR might know whats going on. Dogs on SD have always been numbers and rainbow colors, not actual breed standard colors, lol.

In the UK the only acceptable clours are Liver and white, solid liver, black and white. All other colours are highly undesirble.

It really depends on what Jeff wants to do standard-wise, as the UK accepts - and often prefers - Black dogs while frowning upon Whites. Here in the states, Black dogs are DQed and Whites are accepted.

The American standard accepts:
Liver & White spotted
Liver roan
Liver & White spotted with ticking & roaning
solid Liver

The head must always be Liver, as must the nose and ears.

"Color
The coat is liver and white, usually either liver and white spotted, liver roan, liver and white spotted with ticking and roaning or solid liver. The head is liver, sometimes with a white blaze. The ears are liver. Any black in the coat is to be severely penalized."

Silly countries not agreeing on things, razz :p

Are there other breeds that have gotten colors yet where the two (US and UK ) disagree with each other? what have they done.

I like the idea of having the most color options available to us, even if it means combining the two standards.

I think I like having more colours avaliable to us as well.

I found out a little online:

- You cannot get Black & White (BW) offspring from two Liver & White (LW) parents.
- You can get LW pups from two heterozygous BW parents.
- Solid patterned black and black with white on paws and/or chest are sometimes the result of crossing a solid colored dog with a spotted mate, if one of the mates has the color black. A solid black can produce spotted progeny with either liver or black coloration.
- In spotted patterns, the white patches appear to have two different situations; the most common form has speckling of dark hairs dispersed within the white patch. It can be evenly distributed and is called roan, or it can be mostly white with an even peppering of dark hairs, and this is called ticked. Another form has few or no dark patches, and can be either roan or ticked. Most will have dark heads and ears

In this model the dogs called "liver and white"and "black and white" would be almost entirely white dogs. The only color would be on their heads and perhaps a spot by their tails. occasionally, in RL, such a pup might be born pure white. Is this what you are referring to by "white" ? -Neb

WOW that looks very complicated!!

I am good with whatever the group wants, I am unfamiliar with this breed in RL, but do love them here on Sd.

The whole color thing is very cool!!

Wow, am I impressed!

When I refer to "White" GWP's, yes, this is what I am referring to - a body color of white with a Solid head and occasional patches of color on the body.

Did you know?
The sit for exam is a modified version of the Stand for Exam. It is generally used in novice level classes and requires the handler to order the dog to sit and then to move away from the dog the length of the leash. The judge will then approach the dog and pet the dog's head.
