I wasn't quite sure where to post this but i thought it was just generally intresting... i was reading an artical on canine genetics and i just thought this info was facinating

Apparently there was a study on dog genes in relation to origin and classification... there was a graph showing the genetic distance from wolves to modern day breeds. The wolf population at the root of the tree consisted of eight individuals, one from each of the following countries: China, Oman, Iran, Sweden, Italy, Mexico, Canada, and the United States

it's first branch becomes two distinct breeds... the sharpei and the basenji being the first two and most closely related to wolf genes...

in the sharpei branch you have first the shiba inu followed by a branch that includes the chow chow and akita

although the basenji constutes the second of the two inital branches the other dogs do not dirive from the basenji but branch into another group off the basenji line...

(the basinji appears to have no genetic connection beyond it self)

first branch being the siberian huskey and alaskin malimulte. Then the afgan hound and saluki being of equal length but in seperate catagories...

all other dog breeds branch from the afgan and saluki...

just fyi... i thought it was pretty intresting...
