The standard color for a Manchester is Black and Tan. There are also some alternate colors, which I will include below, but as a breed you will have to decide if those are to be included.

Black and Tan - atatDD
Locus A
at - Black and Tan
Locus D
D - full color

To include the other colors, this is what you would go with:
Locus A
A - Solid Color
at - Black and Tan

Locus D
D - Solid Color
d - Blue dilution

Black and Tan
atatDD
atatDd (Carries blue)

Black
AADD
AADd
AatDD
AatDd

Blue
AAdd
Aatdd

Blue and Tan
atatdd

So as a breed decide if you want to go with one color or four colors.

Thanks, Marchen!

As much as I like the idea of having variety, this game is based mainly on AKC rules, which classify any other color than black and tan as DQ. But I'm willing to be persuaded otherwise. happy :)

I'm pretty sure that Jeff said no DQ colors would be added right now, but I certainly don't mind colors. I didn't even know they existed!

Jeff said the DQ colors would currently not matter, not that they aren't supposed to be included. A lot of breeds I have been working with have decided to add those colors to make things realistic. Jeff simply stated that if you have a DQ color, it won't actually affect show results at this time. So even if you have a dog with a DQ color, it won't affect the quality of the dog. However, in the future the quality MAY be affected by DQ colors, but a warning would be given plenty ahead of time in order to alter your breeding program. So that is why I said it really is up to your breed whether to include the alternate colors. THey can be added if you decide, but will not actually affect anything. The AKC allows you to register and breed alternate colors, but you will get penalized in a show. Those colors still exist though. Since color won't be affecting the shows at this time, you can decide to breed those colors if you want. By not including those extra colors though, you are not giving anyone the opportunity to breed those colors if those are the colors they prefer. My opinion in your case would be to include them. If you only want Black and Tans it will give you more of a challenge to only breed for that color. It will make things more realistic, because in real life you have to be careful with your breedings to try and prevent those DQ colors. Anyway, it is up to all of you!

From Jeff. So that's how that goes. We can do either. I'm good with both but remember when you get a freakishly nice dog that is blue you can't show it. wink ;)

I think a variety of colors would be cool and more challenging.

I have yet to breed my one litter, but if we have colors I might do that to see if I can get a rainbow litter. I vote colors!

Well to be honest, I vote color. Im currently undergoing a program to bring back the Black and Tan, and Blue and Tan. Simply because, in the real world, they would exist. Whatever comes of them later is whatever comes of them later, but for now, it is nice to start from souce and have something to be proud of. So, i am currently searching for a male with the blue gene to be a stud for my blue and tan bitch. Let me know who has anything. Thanks much!

The first obedience title is a CD, or "Companion Dog", which is earned through competition in the Novice obedience class.
