i feel my showdog days coming to an end... but I'm so attached to some of the breeds i've been in for years that i've stayed on for much longer than i've meant to... really hard to sell all the stock, or let it go to waste. some of the breeds i'm in are extremely rare too so i feel worried that if ppl buy them all up and then quit or don't come on anymore they will go to waste too or they will have to start from scratch. i wonder how many other users feel this way or if they just cut the cord and stop coming on...
might just put studs up and sell females, post in the breed forums to help anyone in the future if they wanna join the breed. i love figuring out names, seeing the pedigrees develop over time, but i've been overwhelmed with kennels for the last year and can't figure out how to let go of some of them... i need therapy lmao |

Hi, Sorry you feel you have to go. You haven’t been here that long so what I suggest is that you leave your best males in this kennel. Allow them to be bred with no approvals. You might just come back sometime and will hopefully be able to find some of your lines to get started again. Never say never…you might be back. Carol |

You know, I went through this same issue. Between December 2019 and March 2021, I took a break from SD. There was a lot going on (personally, globally...) and I couldn't focus on any of the things I enjoyed online. Happily, I had just left this kennel dormant with all of my broods and studs. I am very happy I did ![]() If you need a break, take it, but I'd leave your dogs where they are, unless you trust other active users in your breed. |

If you do leave, please for the love of god put all your dogs up for stud before you do. Even if you are the only current breeder in that breed. I've picked up and dabbled in reviving a few "dead" breeds in my time, and it's so much easier when there are current-ish SOP studs sitting out there for use, even if I have to start from sources in my own kennel. (Put up your dogs for stud, period, people! Don't care if you're the only breeder in that breed. Someone like me may come along who wants to help out but doesn't want to have to send a darn message begging for you to put up studs.) |

I’d put your boys up for stud to help anyone out, put some females up for sale if you want (I’d keep a few back, literally some of my gals have been like 650 days old so you may be surprised if you want to come back in a year or two with some of your ladies still being around and being to start again). But if your boys are up for stud and you have some of your ladies for sale then new players will be able to join the breed and carry the torch while you’re gone! I have left for a few hiatuses last one being about half a year and I was pleasantly surprised when I came back and some of the breeds I was the only player in now had many kennels! The opposite did happen in some breeds though, I found I was the only GWP kennel left in the game that had top sop dogs the breed had been otherwise lost and back to starters- I was able to help out some of the breeders by having some litters and putting some high sop pups up for sale so it wasn’t lost. Good luck with your break! |
