I love Dalmatians so much, but I like Golden Retrievers too. For real, I might get a dog for my birthday, but which do you think I should get? Aren't Dalmatians really hyper?

Dalmations Rock!!! I personally have never had one, but I have had a goldie. They are really easy to train, and they are sweet tempered, too. Oh yeah, Tay. If you are going to leave this site, just sell all of your dogs for free! leave a post with all caps saying FREEEEE!!! That's what I did.

When getting a dog it pays to do your research first. Like me my chows live inside. How it is hot, I have to sweep everyday to get their dander off the floor twice a year for about a month in a half to 2 months.

Goldens on the other hand, I read that they shed their coat along with the German Shepherd all year long. Dalmations is a gamble but not a steep one though. Every year %10 of Dalmations are born deaf.

So before you go picking a dog that looks cool do your research first and make sure you do your own envestigating of the breeder that you may buy it from.

I agree with SGB...and along with all that, Dals aren't for everyone based on their exercise requirements, and the fact that so many are just plain ill bred. We have Disney to thank for that.

Please understand what a Dals true temperament is before purchasing.

I've been breeding and showing Dals in conformation for about 10 years now. True, some dals are ill-bred, but if you go to a REPUTABLE breeder then you should have no problem finding a great dal. They do require a lot of exercise and can be hyper at times. I have 5 that live in my house. They are hyper when they are first out but then for the most part, they curl up somewhere and go to sleep. I would recommend that everyone really get all the information about a breed before you purchase a dog, that goes for any breed.

As for the temperments on dals, the AKC standard states, and I quote "Temperament is stable and outgoing, yet dignified. Shyness is a major fault." Which means that they are supposed to be confident dogs but they aren't suppose to be in the laps of strangers. The Dalmatian Club of America Website www.thedca.org has more information as well.

As for health issues, blindness is a new one to me, and I've been doing this for awhile, and I've never had a blind dal or personally known anyone that has. I'm sure they are out there but I think that 10% is too big of a number. Deafness is something that occurs all too often. Dalmatians also have a high uric acid excretion which makes them very prone to forming bladder stones. Because of that Dals also must have water available to them at all times. The DCA website also has more information about health issues in the breed.

I hope this post helps some of you. I just hate seeing pet owners end up with your everyday backyard bred dog, and I hope that more people start doing their research well in advance before actually purchasing a puppy.

if you get a real dalmatian, they aren't very hyper. The only reason they do that is because they used to do some kind of job...but if you have another dog then i don't think you should get a dalmatian,

It is nice to get a dog from the humane society.....But it doesn't mean the dog is better than any other dog. Some breeder dogs can be poorly bred, some are bred and have high quality, some humain society dogs are dogs that can result in problems later in life due to poor breeding other are well bred but were either lost and the owners never found or they were dumped. It really makes no differrence if a dog is from a shelter or not, it doesn't make a difference in how "GOOD" a dog is.

But I dont see whay you are all posting.

edited for spelling.

I have a dalmatian. She is pure bred but she has brown spots. She was the only one that survived in her litter. Dalmatians have long lives because she is nearly 13 years old. I think you should get a dalmatian but do some research first.

Did you know?
Since its centenary year in 1991, Crufts has officially been recognised as the world's largest and most prestigious dog show by the Guinness Book of Records, with a total of 22,973 dogs being exhibited that year.
