Hi there,

I just started and want to understand how to preserve colors in the breed I am working with (Tibetan Spaniels).

I looked at their color genetics and see the combinations, but I guess I am trying to understand how I figure out what genetics each of my dogs has? And If I do not want to lose a color when breeding, how do I choose the appropriate color to breed to?

Anything dominant is in caps (like DD)? So those colors will be passed on over anything else?

Thank you for your help with this happy :) Much appreciated!

Gaylan has a good post talking about color genetics.
I dabble in color in a few of my accounts, and it is kind of a matter of trial and error to see what genes your dogs have, and in breeds with a lot of options can be relatively hard to pin down.
It’s more of a game of trial an error narrowing it down.
Hopefully the gaylan post helps a bit.

Did you know?
The two largest American dog shows after Westminster are the National Dog Show (which is televised on Thanksgiving Day by NBC, usually after the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade) and the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship.
