Even if the poeple had said he was fully trained.. these dogs still need training after training. They are super active and such. I own a two acre field plus about a four acre back yard, and a two acre area of woods. They need LOTS of off leash ecercise.. and tou should have been prepared for that even if they did say it was fully trained. Dogs take a while to settle into a new place... we have had my new BC for a month now and he is just now settling down

Shortie

we live right next to a canal where we took him every day. we let him run off the lead for about 2 miles a day. also he was our first BC

Border collies are natural herders. i would'nt worry too much if your dog circles things. about the biting, you need to show your dog who's boss. keep him inside one day, and don't let him out. This may seem cruel but YOUR DOG NEEDS TO LEARN. train him not to attack other animals, and go and see a different specialist.

No offence but sounds like you need to be a bit firm with him. You could ask to try out a spray collar as that might have a different effect. If that doesnt work, you could try getting one of those isolated cages and put a sheet over it every time he gets a bit OTT and give him time out. Just gently get him by the collar and put him in there. If he trys to get away get so,eone else to help you.

This person also claimed to buy five basset hound puppies. i would just ignore her on her plea for help when it comes to the dogs she owns.

This persons stories seem either very unlikely, and the person is trying to get attention. It is good she can trust the people on showdog, But she should have gone to a proffessional in the first place to help train as she has no experience with BC's.

I wouldnt pinch his ear. I tried that years back with my dogs and they bit my hand instead of yelping. they were bighting the other hand.

What i do for that is that i Say NO VERY firmly and give them a smack on the snout. *near the nose* Not hard enough to hurt him, or even to really sting.. just to surprise him and i know for me it works every time. If he continues bad things like biting strangers, you should enroll him in a training class and get him a muzzle. You shoud also get a can (like one from the grocery store, use it, and then put pennies inside of it. Then seal up the can and if he does somthing u dont like, throw the can near him, hard, but not at him. before yout throw the can say no firmly.

Well, spare change can sometimes be difficult to find, so if that's the case for you, you can always use screws and nails. Don't ask my what kind, it was my borthers idea and I just used it.

Oh, one more thing it would appear you have a very difficult time being firm with him. If he's a baby, now would be the best time to train him, before he gets bigger and stronger and more difficult to manage.

Also, I have met very few dogs the actually 'love' dressing up. Especially big dogs.
