My first go at true source x source breeding! I've seen that it takes years this way to develop a line up to what would be considered show quality. Any tips anyone could offer on best strategies to match up potential mates? I've already started half winging it while thinking I know what I'm doing so any tips would be appreciated! Even if it means telling me I'm completely wrong lol

Don’t even think about ‘show quality’ fir at least 15+ years.
Seriously.

You may have seen some of my posts on this but I will say this again, TRUE source breeding is Not for the faint of heart laugh :D

I started in this kennel in May 2006.
The highest SOP is 96.55.

In the Show ring, what is winning is upper 97’s and 98’s.

How I started was breeding a few pairs Gen 0 to Gen 0

St the beginning, don’t worry about stats, just continue breeding Gen 1 to Gen 1 and so on.

Years later, I started seeing blues. I then tried to match a stat to another dog and breed those.
Forget about Show Shine.
Where I am now, I still don’t care about SS.

If you have any other ?? just send me a message.

Oh, and have a separate kennel, if you can, for your source breeding.
If you don’t, you will eventually find out you need one, if you plan to do this seriously.

Thank you ?? show shine seems to be my best stat right now but I haven't really factored it in so happy accident there lol. Just had my first round of Gen 1 pups. Kept the best SOPs because some of my females outdid themselves and had a larger than average litter. I did just get a Gen 0 male and found a Gen 1 I believe up for sale. Would you suggest only breeding them to the same Gen females then?

Sorry, I missed this. If you have a Gen 1 female, only breed her to a Gen 1 male.

Oh, another suggestion, don’t waste good names on source dogs.
Take a look at mine. My most recent litter is my N litter.
If I named them all fancy names since 2006, I would drive myself crazy trying to come up with names.

The Kennel Club (UK) system, which is also used by the Australian National Kennel Council[1] and in other countries, is considered the most difficult to earn a title under.
