I am working on breeding Bernese Mtn Dogs. There are no other active players in the game that I can find. How much inbreeding can you do? I am up to 30 SOP cause there is no other blood.

How do you work with starters within your own kennel to build SOP?

You just have to keep a puppy out of each litter and make a conscious effort to keep diversity as part of your breeding.

I generally breed from source for colors, and keep four of each gender at a time to maintain diversity. Then I breed the highest SOP combos that are still under 15% (I believe that's the point at which it matters). That's four of each gender at breeding age, not four total, because otherwise you end up with littermates being the only options.

Your biggest priority with starters is to progress in generations. Known parents help eliminate the randomness in what's inherited from lineage.

SS is the easiest trait to fix later so I wouldn't be too concerned with keeping High SS offspring at first.

Pick your two most important traits. Keep High 10+ and Low 10- males in each of those traits. Breeding the highs to the lows will help work towards 10s.

You won't have room to focus on all the traits at once, but the traits judged higher on your SOP will help more.

And, COI isn't that important. You will get funkier results over 25%.

Fingerprint is three gens into Brother - Sister breedings on her dals. She gotten three gens with entire litters of 100 SS20 kids. ROI is close to 30%.

Might want to reach out to this kennel if they decide to sign back in....

They were active last month and have the best BMDs in the game.

Did you know?
The sit for exam is a modified version of the Stand for Exam. It is generally used in novice level classes and requires the handler to order the dog to sit and then to move away from the dog the length of the leash. The judge will then approach the dog and pet the dog's head.
