Sire Merits

When a dog sires a certain amount of champions, it receives a merit for the accomplishment.  Sire merits are only calculated once per week and the title isn't awarded immediately after a dog has reached it.

Gold Sire

Sire of 50 champions.  This is one of the highest honors a dog can achieve on Showdog.com.  Fewer than .3% of the sires on the site ever reach this level of production.

Silver Sire

Sire of 25 champions.

Bronze Sire

Sire of 10 champions, fewer than 5% of sires achieve this.

A specialty show may be regional or national. A "Best in Show" win at a national specialty show is tremendously prestigious, indicating that the winning dog or bitch triumphed at a contest which attracted entries from the most serious fanciers of that breed in the country or continent. Some specialty shows attract international entries.
