So happy the surgery went well, sounds like they were able to resolve the issue as able to drain the cyst. Prayers from us in So. cal.

Sophie sends a comforting tail wag!

Happy update!

Emmie is HOME! laugh :D laugh :D laugh :D laugh :D laugh :D laugh :D

Walking unaided and happy to see me and Tonks. Still looks very sore and sad - does scream in pain or anticipation of pain if he moves his neck suddenly, but he is currently sleeping on his favourite bed beside Tonks. He has a dermal pain relief patch that will slowly release pain relief medication through his skin for 3 days. He's also on anti-inflammatories, antibiotics and has some additional pain relief medication if needed.

He is shaved up quite a bit and will have stitches taken out in 2 weeks. The specialist is happy with how the surgery went, but said to expect a pretty rough recovery period for the next few days before he starts to pick up again due to the swelling on his spinal cord.

Anyway - on to some pics! laugh :D

On the morning of his surgery - just before he was admitted:

Visiting Emmie in hospital a few hours after his surgery:

First time walking post-op! The nurses sent me this pic first thing this morning - I almost cried with happiness to see him walking unaided!

Coming home!

Resting at home with Tonks happy :)

Sorry for the large images!

It's great to see pictures of him! He looks groggy, but probably so much more relaxed now that he's home with you and Tonks!

I cannot wait to see the continued updates!!

So happy that his surgery went well. I hope his recovery is not too traumatic, and he has plenty of good pain meds.

Update on Emmie happy :)

His new nickname is 'Zipper head' :P

He has been in a fair amount of pain for the past few days so we have increased all of his pain meds in the hope that we can help him feel more comfortable. The issue is we're not sure if the pain is like a pinched nerve - which is really hard to relieve them of pain from as its quite a severe pain.

He was walking quite well for the first 24 post op (obviously walking very slowly and gingerly) but was walking with normal function of his legs. But the last few days have been more of a struggle. He will scream in pain for several seconds until he moves into a different position. It's absolutely heartbreaking listening to him. Half the issue is him anticipating the pain ... so he will often stand in the one spot near his bed and contemplate getting on his bed for ages (last night he did this for 1 hour!). If I try to encourage him to move he gets worried and then will start screaming.

Its been very difficult for everyone sad :( Poor Tonks is a bit freaked out - as he doesn't know why Emmie is screaming and he doesn't understand why Emmie won't play with him sad :(

My housemate took Tonks to the offleash park today whilst I was at work with Emmie so he (Tonks) could have some fun running offleash with 5 other dogs happy :)

I'm looking forward to the day that Emmie can run free at the dog park without pain and be happy again happy :)

Thank you all for your continued support happy :) xxx

And yes - his clip is VERY wonky, LOL!!! :P

(They clipped extra bits on the side for his transdermal pain relief patch, and I had asked them to avoid clipping the hair off his ridge, LOL :P

Poor little guy!! When the scar heals up will he be pain-free? Or do you not know that at this point?

Did you know?
A specialty show may be regional or national. A "Best in Show" win at a national specialty show is tremendously prestigious, indicating that the winning dog or bitch triumphed at a contest which attracted entries from the most serious fanciers of that breed in the country or continent. Some specialty shows attract international entries.
