F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S WORK!! Just a question..... what about blue and silver? And was wondering in RL if the term 'grizzle' is used. Much love and Yours In Paws |

Idals Basic User Posts : 266 |
Hey!! Thanks quoteThere is not real "Blue" in Lowchen. In that none are born blue, they have greying which happens as they grow older. The greying hasn't been really studied yet (mode of inheritance, genetic marker and the like) and to be honest makes the colour genetics harder for Jeff. Lowchen definitely go grey, not all but a lot do. Grizzle isn't used in Lowchen at all. |

Awesome work! It will be exciting to see what colours everyone's lowchen are when the colours are implimented. I wonder which colours we have bred into extinction.. |

I'm having a rethink about the White Spotting, it doesn't quite work right. We may have to go with 2 or 3 genes to do with Parti & Pied dogs. |

Make sure to include approximately percentages of dogs and I'll implement it. |

Yay! I haven't been able to find percents, but maybe, since they are related to Havanese they would have similar percentiles for colours. Hmm, I'm not sure... I'm not a colour genetic master.. lol |

LOL Percentages?? Geesh! Ok to do this in my logical brain... 10% Total Solid K "Black" Dogs - 3% Solid Black - 2% Solid Black Pied - 2% Solid Black Particolour - 1% Solid Liver - 1% Solid Liver Pied - 1% Solid Liver Particolour 40% Total Fawn "A" dogs - 15% Fawn - 5% Fawn Pied - 5% Fawn Particolour - 3% Liver Fawn - 1% Liver Fawn Pied - 1% Liver Fawn Particolour - 3% Red Brindle - 1% Red Brindle Pied - 1% Red Brindle Particolour - 3% Liver Brindle - 1% Liver Brindle Pied - 1% Liver Brindle Particolour 40% Black&Cream "aa" dogs - 15% Black & Cream - 5% Black & Cream Pied - 5% Black & Cream Particolour - 3% Chocolate & Cream - 1% Chocolate & Cream Pied - 1% Chocolate & Cream Particolour - 3% Black & Brindle - 1% Black & Brindle Pied - 1% Black & Brindle Particolour - 3% Chocolate & Brindle - 1% Chocolate & Brindle Pied - 1% Chocolate & Brindle Particolour 10% Total Lemon "ee" dogs - 6% Lemon - 2% Lemon Pied - 2% Lemon Particolour HOWEVER !! Adjustments to Pied and Particolour Genes !! These are more correct than previously posted. We can keep my previous notations (if they are already written in code...) but I prefer these as they are more accurate. 4 Genes S - Solid Colour/No White. SS is Homogeneous for Now White si - Pied Markings. Ssi is a no white dog carrying Pied, sisi is a Pied dog, sisp is a Pied dog carrying parti. sp - Particolour Markings. Ssp is a no white dog carrying Parti. spsp is Particolour. sw - "Extreme" Particolour Markings. Ssw is a Pied Coloured dog. sisw is a Parti colour dog, swsp is Particolour, swsw is Particolour. Genes are mentioned here: www.steynmere.com/Boxerama74.html Anyone want to comment? |

I've been "smacked" across the hands, that a Havanese is not related to Lowchen in anyway. Although, I'm open to debate and open hearted. I know, that this is probably a 'world-SD-game' breed which is the rarest. We are only pioneers in what could be held in the future. My love and trust is with Idals, whom has placed a lot of work into this breed. |

quoteWhoever smacked you about the Havanese needs a smacking themselves Havanese and Lowchen are distant relatives, through the trading of small fluffy dogs in the Mediterranean (ancestors of both breeds). There are similarities between the two (in my opinion) that makes them nice "Bichon" cousins. Now is the colour breakdown cool by you? |

Sheesh, I was going to say... Did I read wrong when I was researching the breed?! lol I could have sworn they were related. I have to say I like Lowchen alot better then Havs though.... Great work on the colour genetics, I'm glad there's someone here that knows it, because I get totally lost!! |

Coming from a havanese person(in RL and the game) yes, the breeds are related. Im not sure who "smacked you on the hand" but they are incorrect. IF what they were saying is that the colors are not the same, that is correct. Havanese have no "lemon" they have "dark" and "light"(which Im sure is the same for Lowchens) and the three "base" colors are Black, Chocolate, and Red. Whoever it was that posted in the Hav forum to look here....why? Yes, havanese grey too, which can cause a "blue" look, but they also silver which is where they turn either Blue/Mocha or Silver/"coffie creme" (depending on if black/chocolate) usually by the time they are one. Just thought I would butt in I must complement you, your colors are very thurough....I didnt write all of the Havanese out...there are over 100 possible combos JUST for a solid black dog......It would take way too much time Out of curiosity(for my own knowledge) do you guys have a dilute gene? Lowchen have a greying gene but no dogs are born blue (no slate noses/blue nails). Pups are born black and grey out as they mature. Greying is also called "Fading" in Lowchen. In regards to Lemon, it's just a name given to the light coloured pups who are born without black hairs - "ee". They come in all shades of Apricot Red to Champagne, just like the Havanese. They are called "Apricot", "Honey", "Lemon", "Champagne", "Chamois" etc etc. The Blue gene (w/Slate noses & nails) is the only colour that Havs & Lowchen don't share. We have pretty much everything else. |

This might be a stupid question, but is there a percentage of puppy colours, that is relative to pedigree and parents colouring. EG. In alot of breeds black is dominant, so if you were to say breed two black and tans together, would there be a percentage of puppies that would be the same colour as the parents, or all puppies would be the same colour as the parents? And if you breed the same colour all the way through, will you eventually only get that colour and pattern? |
|||
Idals Basic User Posts : 266 |
quoteSolid Black and Black & Tan are genetically different. Solid Black is dominant, Black & Tan is recessive. Breed two Black & Tans together and you will only get Black & Tans (because to present Black & Tan they require both recessive genes and can only pass on that gene), possible exceptions are "Lemon" if both parents carry a small "e" each or the Parti/Pied combos. But they will all be carrying and passing on Black & Tan genes only. If you breed Black & Tan to Black & Tan all the way through you will get only that, with the occasional Lemon (recessive, on a different locus). Breed Solid Black to Solid Black and you will get a number of different colours appearing as the parents only need a single copy of Black to express that colour. In RL you can breed Solid Black to Solid Black for 4 or 5 generations and STILL get Fawns, Black & Tans etc popping up unexpectedly. My guess is that Lowchen in the game will end up all one colour, probably Brown & Cream But we must wait and see. |
