this post has been edited 2 time(s)

Paris was having some eye issues requiring twice daily treatments. She had lost weight, down to about 9k last time she was weighed and getting quite bony - she used to be about 12k and not so bony. She was eating well though and mentally alert.

Over the last few weeks she started to have some issues with her back and/or back legs, getting kind of wobbly and she seemed to be having trouble laying down which seemed to be related to the back/legs, probably/maybe arthritis. Once down she seemed to sleep peacefully.

I knew something was bothering her but it was sporadic and non-specific. It was a hard decision to make but there seemed to be so many things going on . . .

She was 14.5 years.

Last couple of years have been (rude expression) - lost both my dogs and my sister!

I am so sorry. Lost my 17-yo Shih Tzu girl Lily in November. You really never totally get over I don't think.

No you don't, not really. And it never gets easier no matter how many times you go through it.

I just did some research. Too little too late and not sure if it would have helped anyway, but just read that there may be a link with cataracts/glaucoma and diabetes. No one suggested checking checking for that. If your older dog suddenly has eye issue ask your vet about that. Just a thought!

I'm sorry for your loss. I hope you find comfort in her memory, and your sister's, too.

Did you know?
A conformation dog show is not a comparison of one dog to another but a comparison of each dog to a judge's mental image of the ideal breed type as outlined in the individual breed's breed standard.
