Am I the only one who absolutely detests when people put a male and female with the best handler in every show on the schedule til the end of the month... OR even worse is 2 dogs, 2 bitches with the 2 best handlers...

There are judges that prefer owner handler dogs if you aren't interested in pre-entering shows.

People seem to forget this is a game.

Effort will bring the wins. It's absolutely insane to get mad at someone who actually puts in the energy and strategy to play the game.

I've bred, owned, and shown the top dog in the game including bred and shown over a thousand champions on the game.

I don't appreciate the "it's actually insane" which is a bit over the top, and that's not exactly the definition of insane.

It's ALSO okay to have preferences and find things annoying on a game.

I mean... Yes it is frustrating, I admit, and I have uttered many a cuss word myself, but I mean... isn't that kind of the point of the whole thing?

Yes and that’s usually when I take a break from showing, if indeed they are filling up the entire schedule, which very rarely happens. They probably have better dogs than me anyway so even if they didn’t fill up the schedule, they’d win anyways.

I didn’t think you were insane for feeling that way. But all games have something about them that requires some brain work to outsmart or out win the other, which is part of the fun! happy :)

Could you link an example of this please?

It must be in a breed I don't have, which says a lot since I'm doing 40 breeds across 11 kennels.

Sometimes I do it inadvertently, but I try to spread them out just so I'm not going up against my own dogs. It can be difficult if there's not enough shows sad :(

Some people take this game way too seriously. Sure, it can be frustrating but in the end, it's just a game. People are going to play however they play. Maybe add a different breed?

This is one of the reasons I always seek out judges who love owner handled entries. Plus, I am too lazy to pick handlers for every entry. Otherwise, the best way to combat this is to breed better dogs than the competition.

From someone who has played this game for 20 years, I have seen it all, as most of us “old timers” have.
Just this morning, I went to enter dogs in a show and all top handlers were taken.
I didn’t get mad I just looked for another judge.

Many times, I get to use the #2 or #3 handler and my dog beats the one with the top handlers.

It’s a game. Don’t let this bother you, I realize you might be a ‘newbie’ here.

Tomorrow is another day.
Have a good one.

what strategy would you recommend? It seems to be the only way to win points in high competition breeds, and is also the only way to stack enough dogs in a show with low competition breeds. I'm not an OG player but I've been here for several years and this has been standard practice. I saw another person recently complain about putting to many dogs in a single show, so what are we do to?

My biggest issue is entering 30+ dogs in shows and thus making the point scale totally untenable. I mean, once you have entered the number of dogs required to get 5 points, do you really need to enter 10 more? Is it to have the #1 dog? It's really tough when you are trying to get majors on dogs.

Enter dogs that will beat them. That's what I do. They can take all the handlers they want,I win with last resort handlers just fine most of the time. The best handlers don't guarantee a win. I just reached 100 sop in Cane Corso(this is the second breed I have reached 100 in before anyone else, with Collies being the first for me), so it'll be interesting to see how true they are to 100..

Also, remember there is an excessive handler fee too. If they want to waste money, that's on them.

So I do this. Maybe not 30 but definitely north of 10.

I enter each breed once weekly, assign my oldest dog & bitch to a handler, and then once they finish their championships, they get pulled from shows and the next one in line gets the handler.

Usually by the time the show comes around, IF I have had enough time in my personal life to play the way I want to, there's a much more reasonable number of entries. But y'know, sometimes I get sick, sometimes my job gets in the way, sometimes life gets in the way.

I only use one handler for each gender in each breed, so you definitely can get a good handler and potentially beat me. I also don't usually campaign grands, so you can get some decent grand points off of me. If I'm not paying attention, I often don't have a handler on a class dog so you can get regular points off of me.

My primary purpose for playing is to have a champion of every color of every breed, and right now I'm in some breeds that have a crapton of colors. This is the strategy that works with my everyday life. So this is what I do.

I think everyone has their own way of playing. It's not worth getting upset because someone is not playing the game the way you want them to. I see so many people on here that take all of this way too seriously and at the end of the day, though many may not like hearing this, this is just numbers. Not actual dogs. It's a game. Lol, I do wonder just how much fun it actually is for the ones who employ a cutthroat strategy but again...it's still just a game.

Totally agree, mostly I keep myself to myself as been duped on here before. So I just play my game & enjoy what I do.

Agree. At the moment, hardly showing in some of my kennels because of strategies employed by some other breeders so focusing on breeding. At some point when the competition calms down, I will go back to showing more and breeding less. You adjust. You bring in another breed. At least it's what I do. Otherwise this game stops being a game.

Did you know?
The first obedience title is a CD, or "Companion Dog", which is earned through competition in the Novice obedience class.
