Wanted to see what other kennels do to know when to keep a show quality pup or just to forever home it?
I typically started doing is let them grow out then give them a chance and when they reach 30 if they have no points I forever home them. Sometimes they’ll surprise me by winning a lot when they get older but I don’t want dogs who can’t get points taking up space. So what do you guys do? |

Unless you are working to keep your COI under 15 or color genetics, I'd cut back on producing as many litters and focus on showing. If I was selling a bunch of pups and its generating income, that might change my thought process. Will |

Need to add, I would only cut back if I was producing 100 SOP animals. If I was still in a developing breed, I would not cut back on breedings. Will |

quoteI am trying to experiment with higher COI and see the outcomes of the litters also to get some color back that I want. The one that’s planned right now I think is a brother and sister paring and I'm curious how they will turn out as I have heard many different opinions about COI and how they affect or not showing. But i try to keep all of them so i rarely sell any. I also have been trying to bring back more browns which have been successful so far. Also agreed my new plan to focus of showing more and just breed them when they are retired probably. |

Over in Dals, We've played with Brother Sister pairings. I think Fingerprint did it for three or four generations. It maxes out at around 50s COI. Poodles, you will just still get all 10s and a few with crappy show shine. Will |

quoteThat’s really interesting! I been wanting to know how far the COI can go but now I know. Do you remember was some of the Dal puppies from the paring were successful in the show ring? |

The highest COI I ever got was 35.??%. After that no matter what breeding I did it never went up. And yes, they were pretty successful, lots of them finished. You can look at my retired ones and you can tell by the names which were from the same litters. Anything under probably 200 days old was part of the experiment. |

By the way, Vincent van Dog just died a few days ago. |

I wouldn't FH a show quality dog if I could avoid it. What are the sales opportunities for your breed? Could you simply try to sell excess puppies? |

quoteI have tried in the past but either they will sit there for very long or someone will get them then forever home them quickly. I have gotten some other kennels that has gotten from me and luckily shown the puppies which I am grateful for but it doesn’t happen very often. |

quoteYeah I seen that he was a very nice producer! I’m happy he got to sire a litter before his passing. |
