Um, okay that's hard...

1. Met up with an old friend who I haven't seen in 2 years
2. Took a video of my drunk sister when she almost ruined Christmas dinner, lol
3. Got drunk myself on New Years, and screamed the room off when the countdown began >.<
4. Decided to try mince pies again, never trying them again.. (Okay, I'm running out of ideas.. so there won't be a 5))

1) Four (Fourlorn and all the other kennels she's got...)--like the most amazing SDer EVER!

5 things you look for in a responsible breeder.

Happy I'm not the only one who wishes the Hunger Games was never made.

Well... you know this one is going to be long winded.

1. They must health test, do at least the baseline which is hip clearance, preferably elbow clearance as well. If they do numerous tests such as thyroid, patella, heart, cardiac, eyes, etc., they get more bonus points. I also like to see an understanding of internal health, along the lines of nutrition and the way some of the body systems work. Simply saying "my dog is healthy" or "I know the lines" doesn't cut it for me.

2. Knowledge and understanding of genetics. I wonder about a breeder who simply looks at a pretty dog and wants to breed their female to him, who doesn't follow a specific pattern or goal in their breeding program and just goes with the flow. I would hope my breeder knows more about genetics than I do. There's breeders out there who I know more about genetics than them, and that "scares" me. Color, crossing of bloodlines, dealing with recessives or dominant traits, etc. is what I mean.

3. Knowledge of the history of the breed. While I do not feel that they need to be a history expert, as there is so much information floating around you don't know if it is the truth or not, I would like my breeder to know what the breed was specifically developed for in the early years, and then what it evolved into as man's need for a working dog dwindled. Then what it went through recently and what is happening now. Someone who doesn't just go "oh they were war dogs" but not really know anything further from that.

4. Understanding about type, breeding tools, and ways to set that type, also a specific type in their mind of what they want to produce. I like to see a "technical" breeder, maybe it's because that's the way I am. I like to set things out, write things down, collect information that will help me move forward in my own breeding program. I'd want my breeder to desire certain traits for certain reasons, not just pick "light eyes" because they think it looks pretty. This goes into the next one...

5. Breeding for a PURPOSE! I wouldn't buy from a breeder who breeds just for the sake of it. Honestly, even though breeders are really just breeding the best "pet" as they can, I like to see the goal of a dog bred for a purpose, whether it be home protection (which requires stability, intelligence, courage, etc.), hunting or herding (requires the instinct, as well as trainability and efficiency of movement, etc.), or whatever else. I don't prefer breeders who breed Ch to Ch but never test the parents in temperament or working venues.

That's just in my breed though. I'm sure if I wanted a Chihuahua, it wouldn't be the same.

1) DACHSHUNDS! (Everybody knows I'm in Doxies, and have been forever, showing first, then breeding, lol)
2) Afghans (breed I've been in the second longest)
3) Scottish Terriers (gave me my first CH and first GCH...I've thought about getting back in them)
4) Standard Poodles (LOVE 3 of the breeders in them, Summer, Hayley, and Boksu)
5) Ummmmm...none of the other breeds I've been in, I've enjoyed that much...soooo...pick a random one...Lagotti Romagnolo.
