I would like to hear from people in breeds that are currently in the 99+ SOP region.

Golden retrievers recently hit that mark and since then my breeding program has sort of hit a wall. My highest SOPs are 99.20s and I can't seem to improve on that no matter what I do. I am aware of one 99.25 in the game, but otherwise most dogs are 99.00-99.20.

So I'd like to know what you do to improve SOPs in breeds like this. Do you just continue breeding the high SOP to high SOP and hope that something better eventually pops up? Other breeding strategies or suggestions?

You might want to message Drake Meadows? in Alaskan Mals. He/She has a few theories on breeding that I've read in the Mal forum.

He might be able to give you a new perspective.

Interesting. I've just come back to Goldens after a long absence. I think the wall is in heads. Can't get over 9.8.

I imagine that the decimals are going up, we just can't see them.

Panache
Several breeders have Goldens with better heads coat and size. It won't take long to get them on a single dog.

I think I will start a list of stud dogs with better heads, coat, size, and feet. It would help if breeders would all put all of their dogs up for stud. I know of several dogs with good size and coat that are not available for stud.

I know a couple of them are not on much at the moment. They've always replied when i sent them a note.

Steph, if there is a dog out there with a better head than 9.8/10.2, I'd sure like to find him. LOL

I found one yesterday with a 10 head, don't remember if it was a male or female, but it was a low SOP with source bred dogs a few generations back. So there is a breeder out there working on it!

It's a tough road, that's for sure.

Found the 10 head boy I saw the other day! Brocks Gordon, 79.65 SOP, but still will help with improving that trait.

Did you know?
Judges are generally certified to judge one or several breeds, usually in the same group, but a few "all-breed" judges have the training and experience to judge large numbers of breeds.
