to get an idea of what the SOP would have been had your dog had a full 20 in showshine.

I've gotten into a heap of trouble by adjusting SOPs because now I keep so many dogs with bad SS. I am always too full in all my kennels, and I'd be doing myself a favor if I only kept 20 SS, but I just can't do it. Some of my best dogs are low SOP.

It's a double-edged sword.

I am normally not tempted to keep a low SS dog, this is the first time I've never just FH'ed one immediately.

This pup is a huge leap in SOP for my kennel and the breed but I'm at a loss as what to do with her.

She is an almost 3 point jump over her dam who is in the 87 range along with all of my current brood bitches.

I started with dogs in the 86 range and then worked my way up to 87s. Another breeder produced a phenomanal male who has allowed me to jump almost over night into the 88, 89, and even 91 SOP range with my pups.

Studio,

It would be 20 minus the Showshine (17.2 in this case) = 2.8

2.8 divided by 2 = 1.4

1.4 + the sop (96.80 in this case) = 98.20

I made myself a little chart but usually I just do it in my head.

For every .2 of bad SS, add .1 to the SOP.

In other words:

SS of 19.2 you would add .4 to the SOP

SS of 17.5 you would add 1.5 to the SOP

Some are easy:

SS of 16, add 2 full points to the SOP
SS of 17, add 1.5 full points to the SOP
SS of 18, add 1 full point to the SOP
etc.

Did you know?
A specialty show is a dog show which reviews a single breed, unlike other dog shows, particularly conformation shows, which are generally referred to as "all-breed" because they are open to all breeds recognized by the sponsoring kennel club.
