Wow, I didn't realize my boy made the top 50 this month, #5 Toy as well. Another one for the books, excellent competition at the group level, always impressive.

Congrats everyone!

I was proud to see 2 dogs that I bred in the top 10: #4 dog from DoggyPanache and #5 dog from Xizang.

I also noticed that in the top 50 there are several kennels that have many many dogs. How do you do it??? Is it picking the right handler, the right judge? Also, not that many of the dogs are homebreds.

It can't be a coincidence.

I notice that to, I have been interested in asking the inside stat at how they pick but that will be another press release of information and some may not like sharing that information. I can ask around and see what I can find and what they have to say that they would be comfortable sharing publicly. Love your dogs a lot and I hope to write more about them soon!

Congratulations on the placing this month! Your boy was stunning to see in the ring and I know how much work you have put into your poodles from all sizes throughout the years. Huge congratulations to the #5 Toy breed as well. I wish i had some more time but I think these three releases will be nice at the end of ach month.

That is what I found very interesting.

Let me say at the outset, I am not critising how any players play the game.

To my way of thinking there are two distinct priorities for players out there in Showdog.

Some players get more satisfaction in developing a breed.
while for others it is more in getting as many best in shows as they can, and compete for top dog of the month. You will notice that those kennels with multiple winners, have picked a variety of breeds that are producing multiple in show wins.

Please I hope no one is offended by my views. This is not meant as a criticism, both styles are valid, it is just a matter of choice as to how players view and enjoy playing the game.

It's really interesting. I know several of my kennels used to always be in the top with quite a few BIS etc. It all changed when all the judges either came out of retirement or out of the grave. Now there are so many that I really don't do much research on them anymore. But without fail I will have a dog that will compete against the very top dog with the same handler and never win. It's almost worse than RL. LOL.

The response I got was that they do tend to all favor the owner handled judges more than the others. I do intend to try to help people find these judges and Have a mini person database of the owner handled judges and what not.

I will be trying to make that post while I am working on the show result round ups when I can get to them.

Also sorry the for the delay in round up posts for all that have been waiting. I am on a vacation-ish type trip right now and will be trying to write some but trying to enjoy the coast views and the creek vibes.

Back when we had a limited number of judges, I had a very elaborate spreadsheet for each judge including preferred traits, handlers, everything. Now, with all the judges back in the rotation, it's hopeless, plus with all the 100 SOP breeds, the traits don't seem to matter that much. It just drives me crazy to always get BOS etc and I don't know WHY!!! And so many dogs I have bred always beat my dogs, even with the same handler, and i don't know WHY!

I need to get a life... LOL.

If I have read everyone ones reply correct, I could drop this month result round up and try to make some spread sheets with some judge information and try to make this a little bit easier.

I would like y'all input on it before I would work on it but I would be happy to help mitigate the hassle for some as needed.

If you study their winning dogs you will notice that the dogs they are seriously campaigning are all fully sessioned every day - not just show conditioning, but all three sessions. And they seem to have them on their custom rations.

As I raise puppies in all my kennels, I can't compete with that, but look for the best performing in my young dogs (shown without handlers), and select them for full sessioning and the best rations, that at least gives me a chance, and have had some good results.

I've actually been doing that with some of my top dogs over the past several years (higher quality food, more frequent show obedience training only) and it does appear to have some benefits. But when a better bred dog shows up, the effects sort of go away.
This might be different for those 100 SOP breeds, though. I had two Standards I campaigned this way and that was the only differentiating factor that I could see and control. It *seemed* to work.

Re: judges, I think it's easier to follow patterns of judging with individual breeds. When I occasionally dabble in Standards, I even get confused because in real life, the standard is the same across all three sizes but not so on this site.
I like the large pool of judges, though, especially for campaigning. OH judges are nice for looking at individual entries, especially for puppies, and for time saving, but that's not where I do my winning.

Although sometimes I think I have it down pat and I wake up to very interesting results. That's why I love this game - it's so much like RL sometimes, some judges should NOT be judging my breed imo laugh :D

Gem Crest, I like the roundups but whatever you want to do. Keeps the community alive.

Actually my dogs all get the best ration (1777) as puppies and adults until they hit 120 days. They are also sessioned x3 every day from birth until age 120. I will sell a pup from a litter and show one from the same litter. The one I sell is top of the breed/group and mine is just a Ch. I will take one of the opposite sex and enter it in the same show as the top dog, same handler. Always BOS, always the bridesmaid (and vice versa if male).

It is making me crazy. I mean, it's not like it's that important, it is more of a frustration thing. It's not hidden decimals because if I can't see them, neither can the buyer, right?

I guess it is just a curse I have to bear.

RE: Tarot

I feel that, it's usually when i sell all other puppies in the litter and show 'more promising' on and then get suck at 60-90 days with only a CH title on my dogs and just trying to find the judge that favored them again in showing under them.

I know I found it hard competing in the handler rings so i switched to owner handled at this point and now I think I will cut back on my keepers since I have had so many of my puppies now in the past month place in the top of the groups and some in the top 50 for both of my kennels.

RE: Comet Poodles

I am trying to get over my writers block and after a few changes here and there with format editing I think I finally found my flow again and I think while I listen to my podcasts I will try to write some more. I really find the round up writing to be really fun and as I hear more comments from my own experience in the show ring I add some more of that into the experience of the round up judge comments.

If I can find any of the old materials that they did I might even try to bring those back as new and refreshed version in hopes to get the game back out there for some more interest.

The World Cup had a little over 300+ members in the show, I just want to bring the old back for some OG and long time players feel more at home again.

I love these posts because it makes it feel more like RL. I haven't showed Afghans in probably 30 years but will always miss it. This is the closest I can get to the real thing other than keeping in touch with all my old friends on Facebook.

I know I am not the only one who really is very grateful.

Did you know?
The second obedience title is a CDX, or "Companion Dog Excellent", which is earned through competition in the Open obedience class.
