Thank you guys. I have also noticed that some of you guys have been doing really well in the shows lately. I think I saw a Keeshond took BIS yesterday or the day before. Congrats!

I have a question for you all who are more experienced breeders. I had 2 males born today. One of them has a really low show shine, however, his traits are very good. The other one has a perfect show shine, but his traits are just slightly lower than the first boy. Out of curiosity, which one of these boys would you guys keep?

low ss boy:

perfect ss boy:
www.showdog.com/dog.aspx?id=14386084

The adjusted SOP of the first boy would be 96.10, which is the same as the SOP of the second boy. I'm kind of stumped here lol

Both nice boys, looking at them, your full SS boy is better, or the same, than the low SS in everything -- with the exception of the TNB and temperament (I tend to put temperament last).

Depends what you want to do, and what traits you want to work with, the low SS probably won't show well.

Myself, I would keep the full SS. I only keep low SS boys if they are only slightly low - or have very exceptional traits. But I would see what breeders have to say they may have other opinions.

I wont keep anything under a 20ss myself. I know RNG plays into SS stats, but I feel like its a more stable stat in my lines when I keep SS at 20 in my breedings.

The only exception would be if I got something with an AMAZING stat, like a 9.9 or 10 head or coat, or 9.8 in something else, but that situation hasnt arisen yet happy :)

Hi, I put a boy up for stud duties a couple of days ago and forgot to post him - again ... sorry.

He is the 95.95 adjusted SOP boy with a 9.9 coat:

All about that gait....at 9.8!

I got 2 boys with it out of a litter tonight. I'm going to sell one, cause I need another 96.35 boy like I need a hole in the head. (Where have all the bitches gone? Seriously.) So if anyone wants him, act fast. That gait wont last for long!

Update:
And Winterheart grabbed him! Thanks and good luck! happy :)

Congrats on those pups Gypsy, that 9.8 gait is lovely. Didn't see your post until too late, unfortunately.

Congrats on your boy's bronze Winter Heart, he has done well.

I still can't get any pups past 95.35 SOP (and only one of those), no matter what I breed, and I am going to successful outside studs to try new bloodlines. Am getting very frustrated.

Another litter -- another 96.25 boy sad :(

Thanks Aussie and Winter. Aussie, I can keep you in mind if another crops up if you'd like happy :) I have high hopes for his brother, whom I kept, once he reaches breeding age.

Thanks guys -- I have about 10 litters due over the next five days -- so have my fingers and toes crossed for some smiles from the "puppy gods" -- LOL

And good luck to all those in the same boat as me - I suspect I am not the only breeder in need of some nice litters happy :)

At least my Buhunds have produced some stunning pups.

Congrats Gypsy on the 9.8 Gaits, they look like stunning boys happy :)

I have also noticed that the few litters I have produced so far had nice girls in them, but I'm having the worst luck with finding nice boys in those litters. So far all of my boys have had low show shines or have been around 96.10. Seems it might be a theme going on here. I'll cross my fingers that the doggie Gods smile upon you all.

Ha Serenity, Im having the opposite issue. Lots of nice boys lately but nice girls are few and far between.

Ive got a few more litters coming in the next few days if you want to talk trade?

Still frustrating -- the best traited bitch pup I have bred yet -- but with 19.3 SS. 96.6 adjusted SOP.

The top line of traits is just beautiful sad :(

But in this kennel I have finally managed to get a puppy with a 9.9 coat, who may just be finish-able, with 95.25 SOP. Going to try with him anyway.

Did you know?
In the American Kennel Club, a dog needs 15 points to become a Champion, with each win gaining anywhere from zero to five points depending on the number of dogs competing and the area where the show is held.
