Low SS is driving me up the wall - the best traited pup out of my latest litter sad :(

www.showdog.com/dog.aspx?id=13879997

She seems worth keeping and I think I will -- but the SS is very low. But I just love the FQ/Size/Head/Coat combo.

Is anyone having any really good results breeding with low SS dams. So far I have found my pups from low SS dams have not been all that great. Most of them have not produced anything better than their real SOP.

My best pups have come from 20.00 SS bitches.

I've had some great successes with traits which I will find and link later.

Off the top of my head - I recently FHed a low SS bitch that reached Bronze Dam & produced very well.

www.showdog.com/dog.aspx?name=Analeyn%20Blank%20Space

18.4 SS & 94.40 SOP / adjusted SOP 95.20

She produced GCH Analeyn Skyfall, 95.30, as well as 5 other champions above 95'

I will find some other examples later happy :)

Aussie, I'm with you. Im just about done with breeding low SS anything and going back to keeping nothing below a 20. Theyre hard to finish, despite their traits, and while I have gotten a VERY few decent pups when either parent has a low ss (see the 94.45 pup that He's a Keeper sired recently), theyre few enough and far enough between that Im finding it not worth it. I MIGHT keep a pup with a 18 or 19 or up SS who has EXCEPTIONAL traits, but am just about to go back to the old way. I feel like theres too much instability in the SS this way. And I know mystery poster came over here and told us that SS was RNG and not genetic (at least I think I remember that convo like 200 posts back) but Im just not seeing that.

I just FHed an entire litter.....I'm not going to be showing for a bit. I have too many dogs, too many breeds and need to weed through the masses. I might be putting a couple Keeshonds up for sale.....unfortunately.

I'm VERY close to finishing my first home bred Keeshond, though not the one I thought it would be. My higher SOP boy isn't showing as well a slightly lower one. Oh well, will be happy to finish either one!

I'm having decent luck with my litters...at least keeping a pup from each.

What's the high SOP now? (Just wondering where I compare!)

And, what do people like as far as number of specialties each month? One of my color breeding kennels (different breed, my RL one. Trying to bring my RL dogs' colors back to being competitive in the game!) has a healthy balance so I could add a show. Or add payouts. What does the group like better?

By the way I have put up a specialty under my obedience account on the 15 April.

My highest is still my 95.55 girl Star Dreaming.

Getting occasional nice pups, a 95.45 boy, one each of 95.35, 95.30 and 95.20 girls. But not much else. A lot of low SS stuff and have FH'ed a lot.

Have got more litters coming, so crossed fingers.

@Lycaons ---- I don't mind an extra specialty, but extra payouts also good. I am happy with either option, see what everyone else thinks happy :)............and thanks happy :)

Lyc, my highest is still Get Lucky (and now a new pup as well) both at 95.45. Im never gonna turn down a specialty.

I dont know how much showing I'll be doing once my current crop of "being sessioned" pups is showing, as i have no new pups to take their place at the moment.

94.45 highest here.

Also not having wonderful litter progress, but I have had a number of 95.35's lately plus a 95.40.

I haven't had great results in litters for weeks now...lots of solid traits and decent SOPs but nothing spectacular in a long while.

I added some payouts and a specialty on the 23rd of April.

My highest is 95.35, so I'm not too far behind! Though this one is the boy that's not showing well. I have a 95.3 also, another boy.

I was on a trend of the boys always being better until my last couple of litters, when it was finally the girls!

I did finish my first home bred dog yesterday! Which was good because my litters weren't too thrilling... But, the CH made me happy!

Well done! happy :)

Gypsy - I took a Best In Group tonight also. I'm not sure if she'd place a Keeshond higher but I will keep her in mind happy :)

Just put up a new stud for $25. His SOP may not be much to look at, but he does have a 9.4 in the forequarter that we may find useful- I have not seen a higher FQ yet in my kennel.
